Scandals Nightclub Bar/Club in Asheville
***** The Club For NC Mountains
Posted: August 22, 2009
THE after hours place to get your dance on and party. Very unusual for such a small town like Asheville to have a place like this. Big old YMCA from the 30s or 40s converted into a three story club/bar. More relaxed bar upstairs, video bar and huge dance floor bar on main level, and drag bar downstairs. $8 dollar cover after 10:00 PM. Open Thursday thru Sunday.

Pretty much a lesbian bar. They have a "gay" (men's) night. Call first if your a man looking for other men to see what night it is unless you want to hang with the girls. I always have had a nice time when I went, I'm male, great drag shows down stairs. Huge place

Literally a warehouse (Steel-framed with fiberglass insulation). Very friendly bartenders with pool tables and little else. Simple, clean and respectful place. Good idea to go with some friends.

Larue's Backdoor Bar/Club in Asheville

What a great little bar. At the back of O'Henry's only those in the know go to on purpose. A décor that laughs at itself without being mean. Most nights you walk in and forget your in a gay bar and have some fun. Lots of events and fundraisers.

Smokey Bar/Club in Asheville

I try not to be a piss-elegant Queen and will once every blue moon go to a dive bar but this place looks like CBGBs on the Bowery only without the interesting graffiti, or interesting people, or interesting music, or...you get the point, it does have the 30 years of grime and is a pretty shade of Marlboro yellow-orange and has warm beer. Trent the bartender most nights is very cute and sweet though. Your call.

Tressa's Downtown Jazz and Blues Bar/Club in Asheville
***** Run For Your Life

First sign there was trouble big bald bouncer demands cover to get in. Once you have forked over the cash you see that it's just an older building that is a dirty noisy DUMP! With warm expensive beer on top of that! Gay bar!? More like a tourist trap. Save yourself the trouble...buy a 45 an sit on the curb anywhere in town and you've found better ambiance. Went next door to Smokeys After Dark, which was also a dump, but at least the bartender was nice and the beer was cold and cheaper!
