GI Joe Sauna Bathhouses/Saunas in Montreal
***** GI Joe's - Yes SIR!!!
First to Review - September 29, 2009 - Visited: August 2009
If you're into the Leather Life - when in Montreal, GI Joe's is a must visit! Three floors of rooms ranging from a small-ish "chambre simple" to spacious doubles, and TV Rooms. Try for a room on the third floor where many of the amenities are - Sling & Glory Hole Area, Hot Tub, Sauna and Steam Rooms and TV lounge. Though anywhere at Joe's is good, as the after midnight cruising from floor to floor is hot and heavy. Another sling room and group activity area has been installed on the lower level - no doubt by popular demand! Staff is largely bi-lingual, friendly and a good resource for information on the Montreal gay scene. A 12 hours pass gets you in-and-out privileges so you can visit the many bars and restaurants lining Ste. Catherine Street just outside the entrance. Slightly pricey, but definitely worth it. Rooftop area open for smokers and those who just need a temporary respite from all the action. Music is varied and played at a most reasonable volume, the better to hear the sweet and erotically stimulating sounds of moans, growls, barked out orders and the sweet sound of leather on flesh . One can meet guys from the four corners of the world, especially during one of Montreal's many theme festivals. GI Joe's is a must visit for me whenever I am in Montreal - and I never fail to wend my way home feeling less than happily sore and fully satisfied!

Wheels Bar/Club in Providence
***** Best at Happy Hour
First to Review - September 29, 2009
A small downtown bar with a neighborhood feel, Wheels is a nice place to stop off for an "after work" cocktail. Rather laid back, friendly bar tender, decent, reasonably priced drinks and some interesting men there. However, stopping in late in the evening, one is often hassled by different type of patron, a number of whom are somewhat aggressive in their quest for making a "quick buck", as it were, in order to further fuel their noticeably inebriated or drug induced states.

Bobby's Place Bar/Club in Providence
***** A disappointment - but oh, the possibilities...
Posted: September 29, 2009
I went to Bobby's with three friends on a designated Bear Night - a Friday, but the crowd was quite small, very mixed icluding a number of straights out "sightseeing" and decidedlyunfriendly. Too bad as the place has tremendous possibilities,; large rooms, though the vintage dvd's incessantly playing overly loudly in the video room often malfunctioned, a fine dance floor featuring a kicky vintage chevy monte carlo, a pool room with good seating and a nice patio for smokers. I realize a bar in a smaller town has to try and cater to all tastes but the "something for anyone" that the bar proudly proclaims seemed, at least on that night translated into nothing for anyone

Club Body Center Providence Bathhouses/Saunas in Providence
***** Trying "Harder"
Posted: September 29, 2009 - Visited: September 2009
The CBC Providence is the most modest in the chain, but it gets points for reinventing itself on a pretty regular basis. The loss of the Steam Room is a pity, but that is more than made up for with the addition of more theme nights, which reach out to a wide range of preferences - from TV's to Leathernen and Bears and everything in between. - The place is usually well kept up and the addition of the third floor play area will be something to look forward to on my next visit. The only complaint - there seems to be a confusing policy on the waiting list for a room. the Club is small and does fill up easily, but on my last visit I was told I was third on the waiting list, and several hours went by where I noticed at least a half dozen rooms "turned over', yet the rather surly head attendant did not call my locker number for an upgrade to one of the vacated rooms. And while in the lounge - in full view of the check in area - I witnessed two guys come in who were immediately given rooms - and the CBC advertises a "No Room Reservation" policy. - I wrote the management a polite inquiry about this but never received a reply. A disappointing experience at an otherwise fine establishment.

Mega-Plex Bathhouse Bathhouses/Saunas in Providence
***** A formerly grrreat place going to seed...
Posted: September 29, 2009 - Visited: September 2009
When traveling to Providence I always try to coordinate my visits with the MegaPlex's "Bears at the Baths" Event - every first and third Sunday of the month. - It draws men from all over New England and I have never failed to hook up with some very hot and erotically adventurous Guys there. However the facility seems to be deteriorating more and more with each visit. The Steam Room has not been operational in months. One of the too few bathrooms was out of order. the shower room had several non-operational showers and visible mold was in every corner. On my last visit, every vending machine was broken as was the pay telephone out of service. Not overly clean either and the common rooms are showing a lot of wear and tear. A friendly staff and free coffee help, as dies the complimentary pizza at the Bears events - but I hope the owners invest a little money and bring the place back to what it once was.

Cafe 1254 Bar/Club in Boston
***** The Name Change Says It All
Posted: June 07, 2009
I must agree with the majority of the reviewers. When I first moved to New England I couldn't wait to go to the legendary Ramrod - and I was not disappointed. VERY hot, erotically fascinating Leathermen abounded and the backroom area was, indeed, something to experience. In the past few years the focus of the bar has changed and alienated the very patrons that helped to make it such a success in its "Golden Years" A great pity and a major betrayal by the owners/managers

CLOSED: Mary's Bar/Club in Houston
***** And then there's always Mary's!

A really funky, fun crowd where drag rubs shoulders with leather. Nice Patio, some dark corners for that occasional bout of friskiness that overtakes us all and a fun outdoor patio. Many an evening was ended at this eclectic watering hole...

Green Lantern Bar/Club in Washington DC
***** Disappointed
Posted: October 27, 2008
From most of the other reviews, I apparently visited the Green Lantern on a succession of off nights. Crowd was definitely insular and unfriendly - and I did go on a Thursday Night . No Bears in sight, just a lot of muscle queens and attitude. I try not to judge a bar on one or even two visits so I will stop in when next in DC and hope to be proved wrong in my original assessment.

A Man's World Bar/Club in Cleveland
***** Ups and Downs - like the Cleveland itself
Posted: October 27, 2008
As a native Clevelander my spirits rise and fall with the city's ever changing fortunes. - I haven't been home in a while and perhaps there have been some changes, but I often found Man's Country to be a friendly fun bar- with a, how shall we say? - a diverse clientele. When last there it was connected under the same roof to the Toolox and a weekend-only Downstairs Leather -Levi Bar with a dress code on Saturday nights. - Always had a great time Downstairs with friendly bartenders and frisky men. - Their outdoor patio was always an interesting space as well. And the neighborhood is improving due, undoubtedly to the Gay Urban Pioneers who maintain a strong presence there.

The Alley Bar/Club in Boston
***** Best Bar by FAR in Boston
Posted: October 27, 2008
Always have a grrreat time at the Alley. From the Friendly DoorBears to the Beartenders who pour a good drink to the friendly 30's-50's crowd, packed with Bears & Cubs and their admirers and the more than occasional Leatherbear, this place is always a good time.. Friday happy hour is just that - happy. And weekend the upstairs bar and environs can get mighty frisky. I never miss a night at the Alley when in Boston!

Cocktails Cleveland Bar/Club in Cleveland
***** Something for Everyone
Posted: October 25, 2008
Cocktails and its Brother bar in Akron are great places for almost anyone to have a good time. - A wildly eclectic group of patrons and with the addition of the downstairs Leather Bar - - a nod to Daddy's in Akron - is a great plus. - Physically attractive bar with a great staff and interesting mix of music and special entertainment. - A definite must visit.

Leather Stallion Saloon Bar/Club in Cleveland
***** Hmmmmm...
Posted: October 25, 2008
This used to be my home bar when I lived in Cleveland - my native city - and I am frankly surprised at the plethora of negative reviews. I never failed to have a good time there and found the staff very friendly, and knowledgeable about regulars drinks, which were liberally poured. Especially hot on nights where the LSS hosted a variety of Special Event Nights for visiting Leather Clubs, and Sundays on their patio - the best in the area were always convivial. maybe the ownership and undoubtedly the staff has changed. A pity, because it WAS a weekend staple of LeatherMen and their admirers.

Omega DC Bar/Club in Washington DC
***** Friendly, laid Back Alternative
Posted: October 25, 2008
Two Story bar, interesting mixed crowd, great staff and opportunities to actually meet and converse with friends or a new acquaintance. A nice alternative to the more frenetic over amplified atmosphere of many other area clubs.

DC Eagle Bar/Club in Washington DC
***** A Perennial Favorite
Posted: October 25, 2008
The Eagle was my home bar when I lived in DC and , on a recent visit, was very pleased that all the things that made it my favorite then were still very much in evidence. Friendly crowd, great staff, and a panoply of hot Leathermen - and, in good weather a very frisky patio. Long may it reign!

Parking (the Nightclub) Bar/Club in Montreal
***** Le Tunnel - a great innovation for Parking
Posted: October 25, 2008
The best thing to happen to Parking is that they finally tumbled to the fact that it took a lot of staff to "police" the downstairs Garage part of the complex with the staff carrying flashlights to stem the tide of erotic activity in spaces seemingly designed to promote it. - Now they have created Le Tunnel - with a separate entrance. The decor is not much changed except for the addition of a private backroom. For an extra $4 cover, you can gain admittance and frolic to your hearts content. Virtually no activity is taboo in the close, multi-leveled rabbit warren of dark corners when men can give free reign to their lustful natured! And the staff downstairs only serves to stimulate one's erotic imagination to the max!

Le Stud Bar/Club in Montreal
***** Always worth a visit
Posted: October 25, 2008
Le Stud does indeed have some of the handsomest and friendliest Bartenders I have ever come across. The crowd, however, ranges from VERY hot and decidedly friendly to somewhat cool and insular. Small Dance Floor with overly-loud music but you can retreat to another one of their five Bar areas to converse in a somewhat normal tone of voice.- Hot Videos on a variety of TV's scattered around the perimeters. I must say that, despite some non-connective nights, the staff always makes you feel welcome and that your patronage is appreciated.

Black Eagle / Aigle Noir Bar/Club in Montreal
***** Hit or Miss but when it Hits it Hurts sooooo good!
Posted: October 25, 2008
Multi level bar with great music, friendly, bilingual bartenders, and a back bar that often hosts live BDSMDemos from the Masters of the Dom-SM Academie. Crowd is on the mature side, but oh so experienced in the erotic arts Can be sparse but usually later weekend nights has a good crowd . The Club has a great website and often hosts a variety of theme nights. I get to Montreal often and always put the 'Black Eagle" on my rounds.

Montrose Mining Company Bar/Club in Houston
***** I'm with Oreo
Posted: October 25, 2008
It is nice to come across an unapologetic Man's Bar where the patrons are friendly and not adverse to a little aggressive behavior. I can do without the Dancers, but, other than that have always enjoyed the crowd and have never had bad service from the staff. When I return to Houston, its always on my rounds.

Ripcord Bar/Club in Houston
***** Grrrrrrrowlllll!
Posted: October 25, 2008
When I lived in Houston the Ripcord was my home bar as well. - On a recent visit, I was pleased to see that though it has altered its physical space somewhat, it retained all that was good from the "old days" - Good service, good drinks, and a crowd of Leathermen to rev up the erotic imagination into high gear!

611 Hyde Park Pub Bar/Club in Houston
***** A welcome refuge...
Posted: October 25, 2008
...from the deafening dance bars in the neighborhood - which, don't get me wrong, certainly have their place. But as others here have noted, its a great place to actually meet and CONVERSE with someone. - Great patio and a wide range of the gay community represented here. Very friendly.

Providence Eagle Bar/Club in Providence
***** LeatherMen, Bears and Hot Bartenders - WOOF!
First to Review - October 25, 2008
A Grrrreat Place to have a good drink, meet new men among the generally friendly weekend crowd and indulge in a bit of erotic activity on the weekend in the very dark "back wall" area. Music a bit loud and dancers on the small floor are usually few, but you can still have a conversation without shouting. Hot, often Leather/Bear oriented crowd - 30's-50's DVD's playing on several screens . Friendly bartenders who, on weekend often strip down to their jocks - and they pour a good drink too! All in all - a must stop place whenever I'm fortunate enough to be in this truly interesting arts-friendly city - my favorite on the East Coast.
