Civil Unions, Chicago: The Rehearsal Dinner

Last week, after Illinois legalized same-sex civil unions starting in June, here at GayCities we took it upon ourselves to put on the pressure and plan your commitment ceremony in Chicago. The only thing you’ll need after this is, well, a spouse. Our first post was about choosing a perfect venue for the reception, but you knowing your relatives, better make sure you got a rehearsal dinner in place.

Rehearsal Dinner:

  • 312 Chicago: Coordinating guests can be a pain. Thankfully 312, a classy Italian restaurant, is located adjacent to Hotel Allegro, which means you can keep all the action centered in the loop. The last thing you want is for Grandpa Thurston to get lost and end up on the wrong side of the river.
  • Catch Thirty Five: If your boyhood dream was a big, fat, loud, gay wedding, you can do worse than head to this large seafood restaurant in Downtown Chicago. With a full bar and finger-licking appetizers, no one will feel left out of the feast. Celebration is a family affair.
  • Kit Kat Lounge & Supper Club: What do you mean, Aunt Elsa has never seen a real-live drag queen? How far is Indiana, exactly? If any of your relatives think your ceremony is getting a little too, well, gay, just take them to the Kit Kat and show them what over-the-top really looks like. Grandpa might even enjoy the “Mae West,” a fried chicken dish. And they’ll rejoice to see that even after all these years, your commitment to Cher remains.

Come back next week as we reveal our provocative suggestions for a bachelor or bachelorette party!
