Civil Unions, Chicago: Bachelor/ette Party

After the state of Illinois legalized same-sex civil unions, we took it upon ourselves to put the pressure on and plan your commitment ceremony in Chicago. The only thing you’ll need after this is, well, a spouse. Here we explore places for your fabulous Bachelor/ette Party.

Bachelor/ette Party:

  • Sidetrack: Ah, the memories. Stepping into the man-maze that is Sidetrack won’t be the same with that heavy shiny thing on your finger, so gather your buddies for one last hurrah! But just remember, what happens at Sidetrack… However, also remember that everyone finds out everything about what happened last night during the gossipy morning-after brunch, so keep your eyes fixed on the video screens.
  • Closet: Girls just want to have fun, but not every girl has the same idea of what it means to do so – especially when it comes to bachelorette parties. You hang in the area almost every weekend, so invading a strictly gay bar on your party night seems a little passé. What are you? A straight girl? No, before settling into coupled life, head back into the Closet one more time. The lesbian dive bar gets fun, even when the gay boys crash it.
  • Cubbybear: Every wedding season, it seems like legions of straight brides-to-be and their drunkenly loud bridesmaids descend on Boystown for a girls’ night out–a smart move since the boys (at least in this part of town) are highly unlikely to be tempted to scuttle their wedding plans. We suggest you turn that dynamic on its head and cross the street to decidedly straight sports bar Cubbybear, in the heart of baseball crazy Wrigleyville. Just don’t forget the tiara, the glitter and sequined sash around your shaved chest.
  • Krave (Las Vegas): Nothing says goodbye to the single life like an impulsive trip half way across the country to Sin City. Don’t even think about bringing your camera, it will only be cringe-worthy reminders of all the reasons you’re getting hitched in the first place. Whatever happens in Vegas, don’t leave unsatisfied.

Check back next week for a list of stores where you can accessorize the entire ceremony.
