The Boom lives on?

Here at GayCities, we’ve been closely watching the news out of Laguna Beach, California.

Laguna has long been a favorite amongst gays in “The OC” and a great quick weekend from LA (about an hour away). While it is popular, there have only ever been a few gay bars and the biggest is “The Boom Boom Room” a dance club inside a gay hotel called The Coast Inn.

The property was sold in 2005 and in 2006, The Boom announced its closure – set for Labor Day 2006. After a huge outpouring from the community, the owners of The Boom got an extension from the owner til this Labor Day.

Now, the latest news is that the buyer of the property, Stephen Hazy, who had planned to build an upscale (and non-gay) resort is looking to sell the property. The “Save the Boom” campaign and Laguna Beach city bureacracy has proven too much for him and he wants out.

Does this mean that the Boom will see another summer? Stay tuned…
