5 Things to enjoy in the Palermo District of Buenos Aires

12031461_1015711131793123_1163858410803978417_oWe’ve all hear that Buenos Aries is the Paris of South America from hundreds of travel writers. We won’t bother going over how lovely the city is from an architectural perspective.

But we will tell you about a fabulous ‘hood. The Palermo Hollywood neighborhood is an arts & design district in Buenos Aries. We plopped ourselves down at the lovely Hotel Vitrum, an intimate boutique good for both business and personal travel.

The open-air concept lobby adjoins the restaurant Jolie Bistró Moderno, where upon arriving I enjoyed a huge café con leche – totally delicious and much-needed after the 10-hour flight from JFK. Breakfasts are included daily, fueling your day of exploration. Better yet, the hotel is a blend of modern design, art and clean modern lines. This design is carried into over-sized, light-filled studios, featuring high ceilings and two-person showers.

In short, the perfect base to explore the surrounding area.

5 Things to do in Palermo:

1. In the BA tradition, order streak, but not just anywhere. G to Lo de Jesus, and give the Malbec a try – then go all-in with sirloin “Chorizo” and frites. Classic.

2. Forget tradition. Asian, Southeast Asian in South America? Yep! Try Sunae Asian Cantina, where Filipino-New Yorker Christiana Sunae mixes the the best flavors of Vietnam, Thailand and The Philippines nightly. Try the Kao Soy organic chicken mixed with yellow curry and noodles.

3. Stay-in and enjoy the Vitrum Hotel’s awesome amenities: have a spa day, replete with massage, a steam in the sauna and a great work-out in the Vitrum gym and a dip in the pool. Enjoy some food and down-time at restaurant Jolie Bistró Moderno where the service is super attentive, friendly and professional and the menu is filled with a diverse range to satisfy any pallet.

4. Shop: The Palermo is famous for boutiques. This is a great opportunity to get clothes that you won’t see any of your friends wearing back home. Check out Satori.

5. Get some fresh air. Go for a run or walk in the park on the north side of the Palermo and check out Jardin Botanico Gardens.
