Your Convenient Guide To Navigating New York City Pride

Screen Shot 2014-05-21 at 2.40.32 PMNYC Pride has released its official 2014 Guide, which offers a number of fun profiles and features, as well as a comprehensive list of events and a unique look into this year’s festivities.

The theme dominating this year’s Pride Guide, available for free online, is “The Next Generation of Stonewall”, a unique 37-page feature highlighting LGBT New Yorkers making an impact today. These pioneers, activists, and artists include 2014 NYC Pride Grand Marshal Laverne Cox, drag legend Bianca Del Rio, trans fashion model Carmen Carrera, fashion designer Thakoon Panichgul, and Broadway superstar Billy Porter.

Kicking off this year’s festivities is an unprecedented free Family Night on Tuesday, June 24th, at which LGBT families will gather for a special showing of The Wizard of Oz at Hudson River Park’s Pier 46.

On Friday, June 27, the official Pride Kick-Off begins with The Rally at Pier 26. Speakers for this year’s Rally have not been announced, but last year’s event featured an impassioned speech by Lady Gaga, as well as special appearances by RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Pandora Boxx and SiriusXM host/comedian Keith Price. The historical first NYC Pride Rally took place one month after the Stonewall Riots in 1969, when over 500 people gathered for a “Gay Power” demonstration in Washington Square Park.

Masterbeat will sponsor this year’s official Saturday night event, WE Party Casino, where over 3,000 men will storm the Hammerstein Ballroom for a night of casino-themed fun, hot Spanish dancers, and superstar DJs including Isaac Escalante and Micky Friedman. (Tickets start at $40 and are now available online.)

On the same night, ladies will head over to the Hudson River Park: Pier 26 for Teaze, the giant lesbian-inclined dance party formerly known as Rapture on the River, where DJs Dimples and Susan Levine will spin until the sun sets on the beautiful backdrop of the Hudson River. (Advance tickets start at $25 and are now available online.)

The official step-off for the 2014 Pride March will take place at noon on June 29, after which Grand Marshals Laverne Cox, Rea Carey, and Jonathan Groff will join thousands of participants in a march from 36th Street and Fifth Avenue to Christopher and Greenwich Streets.

Beginning at the March’s destination point and lasting throughout the day, revelers are welcome to check out PrideFest, a classic LGBT street fair featuring vendors, entertainment, and activities celebrating equality. The street fair opens at 11am with entertainment running from 12:30am-5pm on Hudson Street between Abingdon Square and West 14th Street.

This year’s festivities will conclude with sets by DJs Pagano and Grind as well as a special performance by Demi Lovato at the legendary Dance on the Pier. Early bird general admission tickets to the Dance on the Pier start at $50.
