Casa Valentina, the new Broadway play by four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein, opens at Manhattan Theatre Club‘s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in New York City Wednesday. Fierstein, beloved for creating hit musicals Kinky Boots, Newsies, La Cage aux Folles and his landmark drama Torch Song Trilogy, hasn’t presented a new play in almost 30 years. Joe Mantello directs the new piece, which takes place at a Catskills resort called Casa Valentina in 1962. In the play a group of heterosexual men gather to dress and act like women while safely inhabiting their female alter egos. When faced with the opportunity to become an official organization, the group tries to decide whether public recognition would help them gain a place in open society or spell disaster. The cast includes Reed Birney, John Cullum, Gabriel Ebert, Lisa Emery, Tom McGowan, Patrick Page, Larry Pine, Nick Westrate and Mare Winningham.
