Perfect postscript: World Outgames claims top event prize

Politiken, one of Denmark’s leading newspapers, named Copenhagen‘s World Outgames the 2009 “event of the year.” That an LGBT event captured the prize is an accomplishment, especially since the the runner-up is Greenpeace. The radical environmental organization attracted international attention during December’s international climate summit by gate-crashing a world leader dinner featuring none other than the Queen, unfurling a protest banner as live TV cameras rolled.

Uffe Elbæk of World Outgames said the award should be shared with the locals who served as gracious hosts. Why? Only nine percent of Copenhagen residents surveyed about the Outgames had anything negative to say. Ninety percent of gay visitors said they found Copenhagen welcoming.
