Advocate Editor-in-Chief Ties The Knot At Andaz West Hollywood

Matthew Breen, editor-in-chief of the dead tree edition of The Advocatetied the knot with his partner, Andreas, on Sunday in a private rooftop ceremony in front of 70 of their closest family and friends. Our friends at the fabulous Andaz West Hollywood, located along the glittering Sunset Strip, hosted the event.

Matthew and Andreas, a bi-national couple, say they chose the hotel for their wedding venue after learning about another bi-national couple’s story that happened there. Michael Torsiello and Adrian Pellereau celebrated twice at the Andaz – a commitment ceremony in 2012, before gay marriage was legal in California, and again in 2013 immediately after DOMA and Prop 8 were struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court.

“The issue of bi-national immigration for same-sex couples has been something I’ve been following, professionally, for years,” Breen said. “It’s been gut wrenching to see couples separated from one another by unequal application of federal law. Now it’s personal too. I’m in a bi-national relationship, so that fact that we’ll have the same rights as all other married couples means the world to us. It literally means we can be together without fear of being separated.”

Congrats to the newlyweds.
