Navy OKs Active Gay Sailors Wearing Their Uniforms In San Diego Pride

hey-sailorFleet Week comes early for San Diego, you lucky so-and-so’s. The United States Navy, Region Southwest has authorized active duty servicemembers to wear their uniforms in next Saturday’s San Diego LGBT Pride Parade.

“San Diego has a strong military presence and a large LGBT community, and it is important to our LGBT servicemembers that we honor their full identity and service to our country,” said San Diego LGBT Pride General Manager Stephen Whitburn. “We are grateful to the Navy Region Southwest command for extending their support to our event and to these courageous servicemembers.”

This is the third year servicemembers are invited to participate in the Military Contingent which leads the Pride Parade and over 300 sailors are expected to participate, either in uniform or a branch-specific T-shirt.

That’s a lot of seamen.
