Meet Tyler Oakley, Winner Of The GayCities 2012 Pride Photo Challenge

Jul 18, 2012 by

Who says dreams don’t come true? Just last week, GayCities member Tyler Oakley was a cute kid with a bunch of youtube followers of his quirky queer videos, posted from his Castro apartment.

Today he is the official winner of the GayCities 2012 Pride Photo Challenge. Tyler’s photo, Castro Pride, took the grand prize thanks to what can only be described as brilliant strategy: promising to personally meet and greet his fans who voted for his photo during his winner’s trip to New York City, sponsored by our friends at JetBlue and Kimpton Hotels.

Of course, it didn’t hurt that his photo was simply adorable.

“I’m really excited to be heading to New York now that I’ve won the GayCities Challenge,” Tyler gushed when he learned of his victory. “Connecting with [people who watch my videos] is my absolute favorite thing in the world.”

Congrats to Tyler and the second place winner, GayCities member Daniel1776, who receives two nights at any Kimpton Hotel for his photo, KeyWest, Florida, Pride (at left).

Congratulations to you, Tyler. ;-) I came in 2nd and had I won I would have come to your hometown. Have fun in New York, I have been and it is something else. ;-)

Too bad this was just a popularity vote on who had the most friends in the most popular city and not a contest on actual creativeness and quality of photo. Sorry guys but how either one can win over the third place photo is a shame. Mama Tit’s was an ‘effin Landmark for God’s sake. If the real space needle refused to fly the pride flag, at least she flew it over her head!

That is the lamest, most immature, asinine comment someone could ever write. Do people actually do that anymore? I’m sorry your friend lost, maybe had YOU more friends, she would have won!! And I live in Houston, Texas (picture taken in Key West, FL) and my costume and picture wreaked of Pride, so in other words, go f*** yourself and kiss my white GAY ass!! Oh, and have a nice day!! Here in the south, we have manners…something apparently you waste of skin and oxygen up north don’t.

I am an older gay male 59 looking for a city that is more friendly towards older gay males. Like many older gay males I am attracted to younger males, especially black and would be grateful for advice from readers about Florida. I may be emailed at my nome de plume email address which is james.barnes60@yahoo.com. I have a fixed monthly income so I am looking for safe but economical digs. I am college educated and also want someplace where work is readily available for older men. Peace and blessings.

Almost forgot. I enjoyed this article and was heartened to see a young gay male who is so vibrant and articulate with the courage to get out there and not be afraid to give views about life and happenings. I wish Tyler a happy life and further success.  I would like to see more young gay men of all races post their interests and throughts about live, art, music, travel, relationships, etc. It is a big world out there and there are still so many that are lonely and needing someone to care about them. We have come so far from the closets of the past and I hope our future continues to get brighter. Peace and blessings to all.
