WATCH: Pilobolus Takes Tango To The Next Level With Skyscrapers

Tonight, the acclaimed Pilobolus dance troupe debuts its newest work, Skyscrapers, at the Joyce Theater in New York. If that rings a bell, its probably because the choreography was used earlier this year by choreographer Trish Sie and filmmaker Paula Salhany in the video for OK Go’s “Skyscrapers” (below).

Now, instead of a pas de deux, Skyscrapershas been re-imagined as a dance for six, including numerous same-sex pairings.

“Trish and Paula have helped us take their brilliantly executed idea for two dancers on film and transform it into an equally thrilling live dance that uses the video’s world to support a sensual quick-change live tango for six. It’s both moving and stunning to watch,” said Pilobolus Executive Director, Itamar Kubovy.

“I know how surprisingly difficult tango is; It is quite deceptive. It was so inspiring to watch these talented people with such an immense physical vocabulary basically learn a new language,” said Trish Sie.

Pilobolus’ engagement at the Joyce Theater runs through August 11.
