The figures have been tabulated and Sunday’s Broadway Bares XXII: Happy Endings raised a record-breaking $1,254,176 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
With this year’s record total, the 22 editions of Broadway Bares have now raised more than $9.8 million for Broadway Cares. Last year’s 21st edition of Broadway Bares raised $1,103,072; the 20th anniversary edition in 2010 was the first to break $1 million. Broadway Bares started in 1992 and featured seven dancers stripping on a bar, raising about $8,000.
Classic fairy tales like Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin and Pinocchio were transformed into scorching erotic tableaus featuring the hottest chorus boys and girls on the Great White Way in barely more than their dance belts.
Highlights from the show, produced by Tony winner Jerry Mitchel and conceived by Lee Wilkins and Michael Lee Scott, included:

*An opening number featuring Kyle Dean Massey (Next to Normal) as a young man lost in a world where he didn’t fit in until Miriam Shor (Hedwig, GCB) appeared as his fairy godmother and sang the original song “Happy Endings.”
* Jennifer Tilly as the wicked stepmother from Hell.
*A Bollywood-inspired interpretation of Aladdin, with Reed Kelly (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark) in the lead role and dazzling aerialists spinning above the dancers on a giant genie bottle.
*A version of “Puss in Boots” celebrating female empowerment power, with Candice Monet McCall (Memphis) leading an all-female gang against a posse of boot-wearing dudes, led by Charlie Sutton (Wicked).
* High-haired drag queen Lady Bunny leading a be-wigged female ensemble in a cheeky spoof of “Rapunzel”

* Memphis’ Andy Mills starring as a gender-bending Goldilocks surrounded by a hairy bears (right) dipping into their honey pot.
* Evita’s Rachel Potter leading the full Broadway Bares cast in the high energy finale, ”Happily Ever After,” which offered its own storybook ending complete with John Carroll (Follies) as Massey’s Prince Charming.
The show is over, but you can still contribute to or volunteer with Broadway Cares all year round
