A bewigged Cher was the surprise celebrity guest at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles Saturday night, when the legendary singer introduced son Chaz Bono, who was receiving an award for combating homophobia and transphobia. “The other day I was having a big meltdown and Chaz said, ‘Are you going to come to the [GLAAD Media Awards],’ and I went ‘Chaz, you know, I’m not doing well right now,’” she told the crowd at the Westin Bonaventure. “And… he texted me and said ‘I turned into a very understanding, smart man and you can call on me.’  And it made me feel so good, like I could lean on someone.  It touched my heart.”

Also receiving awards was Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson, who helped create the youth-oriented Straight But Not Narrow campaign. Hutcherson told Queerty he was more than ready to play a gay role: “I have no qualms about it at all. I want to play all sorts of roles,” he said. “There are a lot of gay people in the world, so the chances of me playing someone gay is pretty high.”
