The Boys are back! After ending an 11-year run in January, the bare-all musical Naked Boys Singing is returning to the New York stage.
The tres-gay show, which celebrates the male form in all its glory, was the second-longest musical in off-Broadway history (after The Fantasticks) and has spawned productions all over the world—including a few that were shut down. It ended its run at New World Stages on January 28.
But this week the show returns to the Big Apple, revamped with new jokes and choreography, “and bold additions referencing the LGBT community’s ongoing battle for marriage equality,” according to a press release.
“It was time to give Naked Boys Singing a facelift with an updated attitude to reflect the times,” says NBS director Tom D’Angora, a two-time Drama Desk nominee. “We wanted a production that was relevant to this decade. Anything that screamed ‘Nineties’ has been altered or cut. We reinvented the staging and dancing and focused more on the comedy.”
Previews start March 15 at the Kirk Theatre.
