George Clooney Clinches Sainthood By Starring In Dustin Lance Black’s Prop 8 Play

George Clooney might not be a big proponent of matrimony in his own life, but he’s a staunch supporter of marriage equality for gays and lesbians. The Ides of March star has just signed on for the Los Angeles premiere of 8, Dustin Lance Black’s new play detailing the trial to overturn California’s insidious Proposition 8.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the one-night-only production will be directed by Rob Reiner at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre on March 3, with ticket proceeds going to the marriage-equality nonprofit American Foundation for Equal Rights.

“It is astonishing that gay and lesbian Americans are still treated as second-class citizens,” said Clooney. “I am confident that, very soon, the laws of this nation will reflect the basic truth that gay and lesbian people— like all human beings—are born equal in dignity and rights.”
