October 27-31

Just behind Mardi Gras and Southern Decadence, Halloween weekend is the Big Easy’s most flamboyant annual hootenanny. Now in its 28th year, the five-day HNO spectacular benefits AIDS organization Project Lazarus. The Lazarus Ball at Harrah’s Theater Downtown, a black-tie-optional kick-off event, features an open bar and life entertainment. Costumes are mandatory at Saturday night’s Wickedly Ever After dance, where DJs Danny Lehman and Eddie Baez take to the turntables. On Sunday afternoon, things really get moving with brunch on the old time Steamboat Natchez. Looking for something a little naughtier? The Bourbon Pub hosts Ritual, a weekend-long series of nightly parties. Beads, schmeads!

I am seriously considering deleting the gaycities app and disregarding all future emails. In recent months, what started out as a really good idea has, in my view been squandered and wasted.
Your attitude to the collective ‘gay scene’ is so US centric it’s almost commical. For example, your list of ’8 places to get your fright on around the globe’ features 7 cities in North America, and Brussells!! Either the compiler has no available concept of what ‘around the globe’ means, or he/she is not familiar with, or interested in, world geography. This appalling lack of imagination (and, indeed, education) leads me to conclude that your application is solely targetted for US citizens and has no use internationallly what-so-ever. What a sad waste of a fantastic opportunity to reach a world audience, by properly researching and reflecting a ‘world’ perspective.
Your previous lists have had a similar bias and it has become wearing, and slightly insulting to the cities ‘around the globe’ who welcome American gay men and lesbians into their communities so readily. You really do need to have a rethink about your staffing and the level of journalistic experience and impartiality they are able to offer. Using the services of those, who apparently don’t even possess a passport is naive and dangerous.
