For years, New York’s Roxy set the tone for what a gay mega-club should be and when in closed last year to make way for a new condo development, people lined up for hours for the last dance.
But the club is still there, re-opening from time to time for special events, and it seems that plans for Condo development have cooled with the national mortgage crisis and slowing economy. So what’s the Roxy to do? File for a liquor license and re-open?
Thanks to Towleroad, we learned of a new facebook group formed and two community meetings to discuss this. Recently–like other cities–NYC’s nightlife has been under attack by residents who have moved into previously uninhabited areas of the city, so the Roxy needs your support.

Community Board 4 is holding a public meeting to discuss the re-opening of the Roxy on August 12, in the Minetta Room of the Westin Hotel (270 W. 43rd St.) at 6:30 pm. The Board’s Business Licenses & Permits Committee recommends whether or not to grant liquor and cabaret licenses.
Shelved once again. This time, by those who appealed to re-open the Roxy. Which means the picture is rather bleak for re-opening.
