Chicago lesbian bar on the brink

Last week we heard LA’s Normandie Room was forced to shut its doors for good despite its status as the only lesbian bar in West Hollywood. Now it looks like Chicago refuge Star Gaze will face the same fate. New blog Chicago Now reports that while public opinion of the Star Gaze is a bit cloudy, for some women it offers the only option for lesbian-catered nightlife in a male saturated gay scene. Is this a coincidence or something indicative of a broader shift in the ladies’ partying habits these days? Or just another result of the great American recession?

I hope STARGAZE don’t close, It’s the only place women have to go to and listen to some funky r&b music by a hot dj. I mean when he spins he has the dance floor pack. I don’t dance myself but I just love to go to the bar on Saturday nights for the music and have a couple of light beers. I just enjoy watching others dance and hear the funky music. And who knows maybe I will meet someone one night or not. I think the ladies should go often and contribute to the one bar we have left that rocks before it’s gone and then we will be sorry we didn’t contribute more to it and have no place to go and dance and listen to funky music and maybe meet someone.Even if you don’t drink you can get soda water or just get a pepsi. To me it’s more important to contribute to my gay community groups and bars of Chicago because this is where I live and who I am then to by a sandwich or buy anything else. Let’s keep STARGAZE open ladies.
