Paul Brummitt, GayCities Copenhagen editor, has been blogging and photographing from World OutGames. This is his final post, from the Outgames closing ceremony, and Copenhagen Pride.

Fantastic weather for Pride and the closing of Outgames–in contrast to the drenching we all got at the opening.

The triathlon took place in the morning, where several Copenhagen Mermates won medals. My broken wrist confined me to the sidelines, but as the early morning sunshine reflected off the water the pictures I took were so colorful and brilliant they helped to reduce the anguish of not being able to join in. And indeed I did almost shed a tear seeing my friends so happy at the finish.

Pride was the biggest ever in the city because of the thousands of Outgames visitors. Also the most international. Team Sweden danced a “swimming dance” all the way to City Hall. Construction workers watched bare-chested from scaffolding. Estimates are 50,000 people watched the thousands of people parading through the streets–easily one of the biggest events ever in this relatively small capital city.

Everything went very peacefully even when the partying lasted well into the small hours, with city center streets closed either officially or just because of the sheer numbers of revelers made them impossible for drivers to navigate.

Every year, the Pride organizers award a prize to “LGBT Person of the Year.” This year it went to the two people whose initiative it was to bring Outgames to Copenhagen. Congratulations to Tommy and Ole. You, and everyone else involved, did a great job.

Now back to reality. Just what are we all going to do to keep us occupied from now on? I’ve beein invited to be the announcer at the Asia Pacific Outgames in New Zealand in 2011, which sound great–but I can’t wait that long!
