I'm going to Gay Days in Orlando for the first time at the beginning of June and I'm wondering what to expect.
Anyone been there before? What should I plan to do?

If you're looking for a circuity experience, see if you can find a way to stay at the Buena Vista Palace (although it's probably sold out). It's the host hotel of "One Mighty Weekend," which is one of 2 competing event packages. If you can't stay at the BVP, at least get the $60 weekend pass to go to the pool parties, which are always packed with hot, young, circuit boys. If it's your first time, you probably won't want to miss the two big evening parties...Friday night at Typhoon Lagoon (an outdoor water park open only to party attendees) and the main One Mighty Party on Saturday Night at the Disney-Hollywood (formerly MGM) Studios (also open just for us). If you're really hard core into the scene, you might also want to check out the after parties, every night at Arabian Nights. Some people skip the main parties and only do the after parties.
If you're not into the circuit scene or want a less intense experience, the competing set of events is packaged as "Gay Days." The host hotel is the Royal Plaza and also offers pool parties every day. It is sold out.
Regardless of where you stay, you can buy a-la-carte event tickets from either promoter. If you get last minute tickets, you'll have to pick them up at will call at the "host hotel," which means either of the above hotels, depending on which promoter you bought the tickets from, so make sure you don't mix up the hotels. This has been a common source of confusion in years past.
If you don't stay in the BVP or Royal Plaza, try to get a room in one of the other hotels on Hotel Plaza Blvd. This is where all of the non-Disney operated hotels within Disney World are located. Are are within walking distance of both the BVP and Royal Plaza, so you won't have to worry about DUI after those pool parties. Shuttle buses to the events are available from the BVP. I'm not sure about the Royal Plaza.
Wow, I'm so glad I found this! I was hoping to ask the same question, although I'm planning to attend the Gay Days down in Disneyland in October.
Thanks for the info 18thand8th. This actually sounds waaaaay more intense than I was expecting. Can a couple just go and enjoy the parks in the company of a bunch of gays and straight allies without all the partying?
Also, I was hoping to attend in coming years with some friends who have young children, but is this not a good place for families? I was hoping that Gay Days was a place where "non-traditional families" could come and have fun with other pop-and-pop or mom-and-mom families, and have their kids feel "normal" for once. Is that not the case?
Reason,
I just got back from Gay Disney (orlando) and can tell you there's something for everyone. 18thand18th is right that the "One Mighty Weekend" organizers put on a circuit party event for the party boys. But there are other organizers who put on family events, womens events, leather, you name it. The park on Saturday is full of all types, including families. I would say you should do it - it is a wonderful experience - but do choose your hotel, etc carefully - don't pick the hotel that advertises "free shuttle to the all night dance party" ;)
Interesting. Thanks for the first-hand view of the event.
So does anyone have any experience with Disneyland's Gay Days? I know it is a smaller event, but I'm wondering if it is also "something for everyone"?
I had a great time at gay days at Disney World. I can not wait to go in California. See you all there.
