Having visited Puerto Vallarta annually for the past 18 years, I've seen a lot of changes. Some are good, others I am not fond of but the gay presence and friendliness there is larger than ever. It's easy to have a good time whether you want to lounge on the beach, take in the exciting night life or get adventurous and do horse back riding, canopy tours, jeep tours, diving or whatever your heart desires. PV has several gay hotel properties; I like the Mercurio because its centrally located and his very good rates. The staff takes good care of me there as well. Other places are the Blue Chairs Beach Hotel (recently has gone down hill a little, last time I was there it was mentioned the new owners aren't keeping the place up as well and the service seems to be sliding). The new Blue Seas Resort is the former Playa Del Sol Condominiums which when I was there in April 09 was offering a premium beach service for the gay crowd. Paco Paco is still up and running and the management is trying to regain it's luster which faded after the original Paco was booted out and then Club Manana came in and has had a good reputation for being the place to be. There are many other local night clubs and bars, some pop up for a short time and never make it from one season to the next, but there is no shortage of places to hit. The gals at Apache's on Olas Atlas make a fine martini and it's one of my favorite places to hang out after a day at the beach and just talk with locals and other tourists as well, and people watch along the avenue. Remember Easter is the busiest holiday weekend for PV; all of the nationals come from Mexico City and Guadalajara, be prepared to make dinner reservations and have lines to get into popular night spots on this and most holiday weekends. I usually go just after the holiday in April when it's still busy but not as rushed. The website Gay Guide Vallarta http://www.gayguidevallarta.com/ has lots of updated information about the city.
