Anyone else going to see the new Harvey Milk movie? In case you haven't seen the trailer, check out: http://www.movietrailerlive.com/c2/ct_000E_Milk

A part from Chip Arndt and Ellen, who would be other positive gay role models?

I find personally Rosie and Elton a little too abrasive?

  5. yeah, sean penn was great, and it's wonderful to know that now the whole world knows what a great role model harvey was, how he changed the world for the better.

  6. not only was the movie inspirational, but sean penn is a terrific actor. his passion for gay rights is amazing, and the speech he said when he won best actor was just.. amazing. im so glad that someone finally spoke up and said something! he totally won my heart that night. but harvey milk was an amazing piece of work.. and i respect him for all he did. too bad he was cut short. ]:

  7. I saw "Milk" with my "straight-but-not-narrow" friends and bought it the day it came out on DVD. I know WAY too many gay people who had no idea who he was. I believe that part of a healthy self-esteem as a lesbian/gay is knowing our history. Rosie? Elton? I think not...

MY gay role models? Harvey Milk, Randy Shilts, Larry Kramer and Marty Mann top the list.

BTW- read "The Mayor of Castro Street" and see "The Times of Harvey Milk" documentary. Both are excellent.

I'M glad, too, that "someone finally spoke up and said something"- and it was a straight man who's on our side.... I wish all of our "passion for gay rights" was as strong.....

Harvey said, "If a bullet should enter my brain, let it destroy every closet door" Mine's off the f**kin' hinges!

    Discussion, anyone??? :-)

  8. Yes, Harvy Milk is one of our true heroes. I am so proud that his name is back in front of people--straights and generations of gays who do not know him. I loved the movie and the documentary which really complement each other. I feel I learned a lot from both of them. I was not out of the closet (trying to live the hetero life) during the times of Harvy Milk and it really sailed over my head until now. We owe the man a great debt--and the same to Sean Penn for taking the role and bringing Harvey to life. I am so greatful he was awareded the Oscar for that wonderful performance.
