  1. Hi all- I am looking to move to San Diego, I'm driving down for a visit in a couple months but I haven't lived there since I was practically in diapers and need some tips.
I really want to live in a gay friendly area (or multi culturally friendly as my son is multi-ethnic) or at least right by one and I know San Diego is huge so I wanted to know where people have had the most luck.
Also any tips on spots to visit for my upcoming drive would be great too!
    Thanks bunches!

  2. Well, Hillcrest is the classic gay area. I think it has spread out from there into the surrounding parts, so look anywhere along University or close to Balboa Park.

As for the multi-ethnic part, that should not be difficult. I also haven't lived in SD for years, but I do visit frequently, and it has always been the case that there are lots of multi-ethnic families. The Navy brought some regretable influences to SD, but one good thing it brough was lots of interracial couples.

  3. I second Reason's answer, but I suggest looking at University Heights too - while I never lived there, it seems like a nice residential area but with some good restaurants and bars on its main strip.

  4. I was born and have grown up in San Diego, and so I can fully back reason's suggestion of hillcrest. It's extremely gay friendly and it has a very decent sized multi-ethnic population.
As for university heights, thats a bit of a shady area of town. It is geting much better, but if you're raising a kid, that might not be the best place for you.
