  1. I was disappointed to hear that American Airlines decided to charge $15 for every bag you check.

I get that fuel costs are rising and they need to pay for it somehow, but this is bound to cause the worst kind of behavior. I travel a lot and most of the time I carry my bag on. But I'm also respectful and travel light - I have a small roller bag that easily fits in the overhead. Recently people have been carrying bigger and bigger bigs on and this fee will only make that worse. Can you imagine the 10 people in front of you each carrying gigantic bags and wondering why they can't make them fit - or worse yet, taking up all space.

Seems pretty silly - I don't mind paying a little more, but please American, make the fees cause the right kind of behavior.

    What do you think?

  2. Actually, it's even worse. It's $15 for the first bag and $25 for every one thereafter! American has not been my favorite airline in the past and this is only going to make things worse. They are really going to have to STRICTLY enforce the size and number of carry-ons with this new policy, otherwise it will be ridiculous trying to board the plane. It will almost make it worth it to ship some of your things back and forth. I will personally just choose to fly another airline (although I'm sure some of them will follow suit). How can I take all of my shoes otherwise?

  3. True about the extra $25 for USAir, United, etc. I book mostly cruises and they have seen fuel costs soar over 400% so their $5-$8 surcharges are understandable - but the noncoms (taxes, surcharges & fees for security, etc) are almost as much as the base cruise fare - makes it hard to quote an advertized rate to a client and then come back with "and the total is.."

  4. Now United is doing it too: $15 for the first bag.
