Equality has come a long way in New England in a short time. Definitely not as fast as anyone of us would like, but progress non the less. I am heartbroken about the vote in Maine, the very fact that people can vote someone's ability to have equal rights in America appalls me. I am optimistic that the right thing will come soon. Until then I believe that Harvey Milk was probably right with his ideology that gay people should be visible, everyone knows gay people even if they are not aware of it. People are more willing to turn from all the hate and lies of discriminating groups with "godly" agenda's and support equality when they are able to realize that someone they care about is the victim of such discrimination. As for traveling in Maine, there are many gay friendly places and people. Perhaps avoiding the merchants that gave financial support to the Yes on 1 campaign would be the way to go. Be strengthened and know that equality for all will be a reality someday soon!

Contrary to what it is sold through the media, SF is not a gay party town. I dont know where you come from, but in my case coming from South Florida, I expected clubs/bars would not have any difficulty finding patrons considering the huge number of gays in this city. Eventually I realized that nightlife activities were not too popular and most places get empty by 12-1 AM. Also, you will not see too many gay tourists (like you will see in LA or Fort Lauderdale) in clubs. By the way, San Franciscan are not the most welcoming crowd toward tourists in a bar/club setting.

The weather is cold all year around (like the famous phrase says: I have not experienced a colder winter than a summer in San Francisco). By December is around 40-50 in the evenings. However, every club is equipped with coat checking. The best website to check events is Tobygo.com.

If you feel like you really want to tell her, try to find out what she thinks about gay people etc. subtly and figure if you realy want to tell her anymore...Otherwise just make sure you have a reason (valid) for going out t do your stuff. It wrecks a girl when she finds out about something she thinks she should know about, and hysterical ladies have never really made a man's day.

I remember being in high school as a frosh, and there was this one guy who always looked his best, and halfway through the year, a friend asked me which girl I was taking to the dance. I kinda unconsciously pointed to 'him' and I was like, "him," and my friend was staring at me weird. I asked him, "what?" and he scrunched up his face and said"you're gay?" I guess that was when I realized that, yeah, hey, i AM gay. Things kinda pop up at you sometimes, it's not always 'I only noticed the guys'- the girls just aren't as intersting. :)

Dan and bullseye, you guys make a really good point about not boycotting states where we've lost marriage referendums. Our travel would be limited! The thing we have to recognize is that the other side's negative ad campaigns were successful in California and now in Maine. I remember the TV ads in the L.A. market last year. The other side's scare tactics apparently worked better than our high-road approach. Those negative ads worked well in Orange and San Diego Counties, both with high voter density. They used the same scare tactics in Maine. Any ideas how we can combat this?

I can't say a trip to Maine was on my horizon regardless of the outcome of this vote. Though it is certainly a blow to hear of the defeat, I don't think a boycott of the state would likely do any good. If I ever do make it out there, I would definitely try to stick to gay and gay friendly businesses as best I could. The vote wasn't a landslide, and the negative result unfortunately overshadows the very positive "No on 1" campaign and all the open-minded citizens of the state. If I were to boycott every state that has voted gay marriage down, not only would I have to leave my home state of California, but I wouldn't be able to visit another 30 or so states that make up this beautiful-however backwards at times-country of ours.

Please, before you decide to boycott Maine because of this disappointing vote, remember all the gay and gay-friendly business owners in the charming village of Ogunquit and the beautiful seaside city of Portland. Businesses are already struggling in this challenging economic environment, and we need to think twice before we contribute to that struggle. Yesterday's vote was upsetting and frustrating, but I would like to pose the question about why this issue is being put to a vote anyway! Gay civil rights were not put to a vote by our neighbors in Canada. Black civil rights were not put to a vote in the U.S. 1964. LGBT people need a strong persuasive voice like MLK and a president who isn't afraid of the issue. OK, Pete is now stepping down from his soap box! But please go to Maine--it's a beautiful state!

I'm incredibly frustrated. I just don't see how people can take away existing rights. But will I not travel to Portland or Ogunquit? I live in California, so I can't really throw stones - we too had our rights taken away, but I don't want people to stop coming to visit me.

How can we make an impact in a way that matters - I don't want all the businesses run by LGBT folks an d our allies to suffer, but I would like to have some sort of major impact on their economy that says "don't f*** with the gays". It's a really tough situation.

I'm not sure what I will do yet cause I love the state and have many gay friends in Portland I want to support. But it is very upsetting to have our rights just stripped away, and to watch the jubilation of those who organized against equality. They need to be held accountable.

Chris, this is a complicated and very interesting question. I think I find myself in the category of 100% gay and 0% straight, but there are a lot of people who I believe are multi-sexual. I feel a bit jealous imagining all the stimulation those people can react to. For me, it was obvious early on. I had my first experience when I was in 4th grade. It was with an "older man" in 6th grade who matured early. I can't go into the details here, but let me tell you that it definitely fueled my fantasies. Because of societal pressures, I went through the usual period of denial, but in my heart and in my head, I knew it was real. My turning point was my acceptance of myself. You may find yourself in the category that I call multi-sexual (lucky you!), but in any case, the key to your happiness and enjoyment will come with accepting what is, and ignoring what society tells you should be.

Who would have thought that conservative London would be a hot button topic? After reading Niki's comments a couple of times, I guess he is saying that he thinks London is an expensive non-party type of city. If so, I think I might agree with that. But it's still a wonderful place! I've been here more than a dozen times on business, and I've always found the bars to be a bit too conservative for me, and the patrons somewhat aloof. Maybe I haven't gone all the right places. But I absolutely agree with bullseye on his assessment that London is fascinating, diverse and sophisticated. Maybe I should add my personal recommendations of the many cultural, historic and artistic venues that London has to offer.

NOt sure what the hell Niki i speaking about. Does he have the correct city in mind? i have consistently found London to be just about the most vibrant, fascinating and diverse city on the planet. The nightlife is hopping and friendly, the shopping incredible. The museaums--well it would take a lifetime to take in all the cultural and arts attractions. The saunas, well, let's just say some of the most beautiful men in the world crowd them--and they are so many they are practically on every corner. Whoa!

First, it is normal and healthy to be bisexual. It is not a healthy relatiomship to hide your sexuality. You don't need to tell your family, but you need to tell your wife and let her decide if she wants to share you and share the risk of desiease. I told my wife when we dated that I was bi, but I wasn't seeing men, but I fantisizes with her openly. Five years ago she told me it was OK for me to practice my gay desires, but we would not have sex anymore. That was perfect for me, and I love my wife more because of her willingness to let me be gay and stay married.

Hi, I'm 52 and have been Bi since I was 12. No one in my family knows. I have been married for 27 years and my wife does not know.I have been REAL safe about it. I took my time to "feel out" my close frinds and found one that is thinking along the same lines as me. we have been together a number of times and we can not be together and still keep it cool. I know from my experiance that going to Gay Steamrooms can bring you close to having a sexual encounter with another man, but it is all up to you. Be CAREFUL, and set and KEEP your boundries.I have been with my friend for the real intimate times and with other guys for the "hands only" times, the "may I watch" times, and shower times...BUT KEEP YOUR BOUNDRIES" Let your "partner' know from the start that these are the comfort zones for you and you will stick to them and in the 45 years I've been Bi. only once did I have a small problem and it was quickly straightened out.Jhonieapple and Chrisbiguy are right, TAKE YOUR TIME!!! Most important BE CAREFUL, and be SAFE....

Hey guys. Want to give you guys an update about the Harbor Room. After having our vehicle hit, which also took it out of our lives; my partner David decided to quit that place. For his own safty. Seeing that it was hit so hard to have the passenger wheel pushed three feet up on the curb, it sent aclear message to be careful.
As of today, the bar is hardly open past eleven pm anymore. One of there long time bartenders has made it clear to have more cameras outside watching the street and linked directly to the police department. So my advice is that if yoou do want to go, go early, and leave after one or two drinks being very cautious of where you park as well.

Hi guys! I am looking for someone who is also planning to visit Vienna at the end of October! If you are, please let me know by e-mail, we could arrange our meeting. I've never been there before, so I think it's easy to be in the unknown city together!

Hey peeps! My man and I are going to be in SF over the upcoming New Years Eve and we're wondering if there are any typical events that you can count on happening every year. Has anything even been planned yet for this year? Also, outside of events, are there any great places to be to catch fireworks shows? How's the weather around that time of year? I know I'm kinda jumping the gun, but I'm a planner...what can I say?
Thanks for any input!!
Besos!
AJ

I second that! Even though I was lucky enough to get to be there, it's still great to look through the pictures--it lets me relive the energy and passion of the crowds that day. Hopefully flipping through the pics will remind people that this fight is alive and that there is still very much to be done. Not just in DC, but in everybody out there's home towns/cities.

ok, the skinny on Ms Z's is as follows:
apprently one of the dj's has a hassle going with them (im assuming "FORMER" dj) and has been the one spreading the word, even via internet sites, that the place closed to gays.
IT IS NOT SO...talked to the mgr or owner about it, and he says the only thing that has changed is the name of the place, as it is now named Colours....
they are having bands, dances, etc., and he especially wants to plug the halloween party the 31st.I am planning on going, come hell or high water.
anyway, i assured him i would tell as many women as i could so as to thwart the mis-information...rotten thing for someone to do, to effect other peoples livlihoods....so anyway, tonight i am a very happy camper. please please please help spread the word....

Thanks so much to bullseye and Scott and others who took the time to photograph the events at the National Equality March, and then to share their pics with us. I wish I could have been at the march, but I was unable to be. It was great to see the number of people who attended, marching on behalf of all of us. What a wonderful set of photos! Maybe the most poignant was the interracial couple who held the sign pointing out that their marriage was illegal at one time also. Great pics! Thanks a lot!

Jmanv - Welcome to Texas! I recently moved here from Sherman Oaks, California. In San Antonio, the gayborhood is centered around North Main Street, just north of downtown (and The River Walk). None of the roads in San Antonio are straight, so grab a taxi from your hotel, and head over. Once you are there, everything is within walking distance (not by LA standards, though, where everyone drives their car to go across the street!). Bars tend to get busier around 11 pm, and may not be busy at other times. If you'd like, send me more details of where you will be staying and what attracts you, and I will write back. Calvin P
