' a s p a c e t o s i t w i t h ' is a textile creation by Zaida Adriana Goveo Balmaseda. Presented for the first time at the Textile Arts Center's AIR 5 Exhibition. Follow the making-journey here: www.aspacetositwith.tumblr.com ''A piece about the meditative opportunity that slow work provides. A sacred space to sit with the work, the ingredients, yourself. A space for reflection and grounding. I use my hands to create, slowly and mindfully – cherishing moments when the mind is quiet, letting the body as a vessel of spirit, simply express. 'aspacetositwith' reflects a committed and laborious, daily stitching practice that transformed humble organic materials into unique textile topographies. By connecting with my ‘ingredients’ and honoring them, I make them matter. Working around this large circle and around thousands of small individual beans allows me to experience gradual but progressive growth. A deliberate act of being present in every stitch while considering the cosmos that they collectively create. Once all of the beans are sewn, one needs to nurture them. Lovingly watering them, touching, feeling, and contemplating as they subtly radiate.
