The food and service was actually pretty good. Was there on Friday night after 7pm. The bar area was very busy with an older crowd.

If you like older men then this is heaven! LOTS of good looking and friendly older men. Lots of me in the 60 and 70's~~

A friend recommended Tropics to me when I was looking for places to visit while on vacation in the area. I walked in knowing no one, having no idea what Tropics was like or who patronized it, and left that night having had the best time of my life. The place was packed, the piano player was rolling out the tunes and men of all ages were standing around singing unselfconsciously, no matter what their skill level. Everyone was there to have a good time and that's exactly what they had. I struck up conversations with several men; everyone was warm and welcoming, and not once did I feel uncomfortable. I came back on successive nights and without fail, ran into guys from the first night who remembered my name, bought me drinks, chatted (and yes, flirted) with me and basically made me feel like this was one of the best spots on the planet. Would I go back? Absolutely. Will I bring friends? Maybe.... I had such a great time, I'm not sure I want to share it!

Most patrons are mature, but have a great attitude and sociable. You can actually carry a conversation for more than 5 minutes without them answering the cellular.
Every bar you go I see a sea of people constantly attached to their cellular, receiving, sending, text messaging. I leave mine in the car when I out going to clubs.
I can only imagine that this bunch of kids are doctors on emergency room calls, navy seals on a 24/7 call status, or secret agents receiving an urgent "encrypted" message that a Harrier Jet will soon land on the parking lot and whisked them away on another "Mission Impossible"

Always interesting to see how younger men consider their older peers. Yes, Tropics is indeed popular with older gay men (and the young guys who like them); but venting about them being aggressive in a bar designed to host them is pretty silly. So here's a local's view: the daily lunch buffet is a great deal (and good quality); nightly dinner specials also make this an affordable alternative for locals and tourists alike. The drinks are affordable and a full pour. As for the comment about staff turnover, wow, I've been waited on by the same 3 bartenders for about 6 years now. If you dont like an older crowd, go to alibi for lousy food and loud music. We regulars will be pleased to point you int eh right direction (and for the records, I'm only 47)
