Now that the summer vacation season is over, GayCities wants to know some inexpensive fall "staycations" in your city. What are your suggestions?

  • Austin, Texas is a great place for staycations! We have four (4) state parks within 40-45 miles of the city: McKinney Falls (inside of city limits!), Bastrop and Buescher State Parks to the east on Texas Hwy 71, and Perdenales Falls State Park west of here, also off of Hwy 71. Closer to town we have Barton Springs Pool, a couple of lakes: Austin and Travis, and numerous other attractions. Just don't come during Spring Break when SXSW Music and Interactive festivals are here - you won't have any room!

  • Hola Poppi! Listen, check out the B&B's out on Eastern Lunguyland, The north shore/fork say from Mattituck to Orient. Also the LIRR (Lunguyland Rail Road) has some special deals that are muy rico. And hunney, it is so beautiful out there once the trees put on their Gay Pride Colores!!! There are vineyards, farms for when you want to, er I meant to say, when you want a Jack'O'Lantern and some fall foliage to bring back to The City. Restaurants and stuff too. Even the Ocean is nice for walking and some romance this time of year till say early Noviembre. O and Poppi, don forget a sweater, it gets chilly at night. If you are from any where else trust me, Take a trip. If you fly into JFK there is a tram directly to Jamaica station, or LGA, you can get a shuttle bus to Penn Station and catch a train there. (It is a long ride, but you can relax, try to arrive early so you can sight see on the way. Also, believe it or not, The Island has an Airport, ISL (Islip MacArthur and you can get a ride to the rail from there. Encantase Chulo!

  • Here in the Washington, DC area, we have so many great ways to have fun without spending a fortune. The Fall is a perfect time to grab some friends and visit three or four Virginia wineries. We have scores of them within an hour or two and most are open to the public for tours, tastings and even picnics. Great Falls is a great place to hike and take in the Fall foliage and it's just 20 minutes outside of the city. And then there are all the museums and monuments...most of which are free. It's amazing how many Washingtonians haven't visited more than a handful! And because we have some the best hotels and restaurants in the country...leave the house and book a last-minute in-town stay. So what if it's just down the block? There's nothing like breakfast in bed.

  • Sometimes you really don't have to look any further than your own backyard! Of course, we much prefer that you slept over with us! Summer may be officially at an end but if you live in the western US, for example, the wine harvest has just begun. You go tasting and leave the housekeeping to us! If you live in Southern California, make your headquarters the @Hyatt Santa Barbara while you sip a glass of Rhone in Foxen Canyon. Or relax by the fire @Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa after a long day touring the vineyards of the Texas Hill Country if you hail from Austin!
